I've written a very basic HTML file (called main.txt) which you can download at the bottom of this page (change the filename to main.html). You can open HTML files with your browser even if they are on your computer and not on the internet. Webpages are written in a language called Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) which tells your browser what to display. You need to display your program somewhere and that somewhere is a web page. For security reasons, Chrome doesn't work when opening trying to run this type of file on your computer (unless you set up a simple server) so for this I recommend using Firefox.

The courses use a variety of teaching methods, including videos, read-throughs and examples, making it very accessible to lots of different people. Khan Academy is a great place for beginners, and is a good choice if you want to learn to code for website-creation, but don’t have ambitions of coding professionally. Web-specific courses include HTML/CSS and HTML/JS. For example, Khan Academy has several different courses for learning JavaScript (JS), which is widely used for websites, but can be applied in a variety of areas. Most of their available resources for learning to code are most relevant to web-development, but don’t necessarily stop there. Khan Academy offers a HUGE number of DIY learning opportunities for coding, and for everything else.
